Preperations for the semester abroad

Here we go with the preparation.

After you have received our confirmation mail, take the following steps:
Keep in mind:

  • Visa
  • Passport
  • Health insurance
  • Vaccinations
  • Flights
  • Accommodation
  • Driving licence

Entry to Indonesia will require a current visa and you will specifically need a student visa for your time at Udayana University. A full checklist will be sent to you along with you confirmation email.

We highly recommend that you take out overseas health insurance (comprehensive travel insurance is suggested to cover all aspects of your trip).

Booking your flight as early as possible will help to ensure you get the best deals. Student’s rates and special offers are often available via internet sites although these are not always the cheapest option. Do compare a number of offers from different sources.
As part of your visa application you will be required to produce a copy of your return airline ticket.

To withdraw money from your bank account in Bali you will need a credit card. Some banks offer free cash withdrawals abroad. Ask your bank for any such offers.
In short:

  • Apply for a visa
  • Check the expiry date of your passport and apply for a new one, if necessary
  • Check your insurances, get an overseas health cover

At your home university:

  • Check at your home university if courses completed abroad can be accredited

General considerations:

  • Apply for an international driving license
  • If you require regular medication ensure you have sufficient for your trip

Your apartment in your home country:

  • Cancel running contracts (telephone, internet, journals, …)
  • Contact postal service to redirect your mails (e.g. to your parents’ home)
  • Deregister your car / motorbike / …

  • Apply for a credit card
  • Ask your bank advisor about the fees for money withdrawals and transactions from abroad

  • Make copies of all your documents, tickets etc.
  • Ensure that you can be contacted whilst abroad
